Hi Everyone-
This is my first entry to my blog at Funding the Arts.org. A website that I started to help artists and art organizations find funding for their Creative Projects. I have been working on this concept for many months now, or even my entire life as an artist and a performer. Being creative is great but getting the message out that your creative endeavors need funding is what this site is all about. I hope that I have made this site easy to use and easy to find projects that you might be interested in learning more about and maybe even donate to their project.
In the future, this blog will discuss issues that are of interest to artists such as health care, auditions, other sources of funding, any interesting articles that I might find that might be important to the art community. Also I will have guest bloggers in other areas of interest. If you want me to research anything or blog about anything, just email me at joanne@fundingthearts.org
My background is in dance. I started taking classes with Andre Eglevsky on Long Island and also with Vitale Fokine. Later on I studied with Merce Cunningham, Viola Farber, Rudy Perez, Merle Lister, Dan Wagoner,and on and on. Then I went to Adelphi and Columbia Teachers College graduating with degrees in dance. After that I opened up North Shore Dance Academy in Glen Head NY and then Lenox Dance Academy in Lenox MA.
I live in an area that has lots of theatre,dance music companies such as "Barrington Stage", "Berkshire Theatre Company", Williamstown Theatre", "Jacob's Pillow", "Tanglewood", "Chester Theartre. I'll keep you informed of my local theatre and arts here in the Berkshires and beyond.
Through the years I have made so many great friends in all areas of the arts and that's how I came up with this website. Last year I attend a foundation boot-camp held by "Craigslist" in NYC. I meet so many different artists with such great ideas. The common ground was a lack of funding in the arts.
I hope that you will enjoy my website I am very proud of it and very excited to finally get the website going. Let me have your feedback about things that you like about the site and even things that you don't like.
