Finally it's Spring!
Small Historical Houses Need Funding Too!

Lately I've seen alot of articles and programs about small Historical Houses that are in need of funding. Saving Historical houses has become a very popular funding issue, saving them from the bulldozer.

On TV yesterday I saw one about the women who came up with earth day. It was a beautiful house and tastefully restored. It had an educational aspect to it, where people could learn about her work and her writings. In our local papers, there are efforts to save a one room schoolhouse in New Asford on Mallory Road. Its claim to fame is that it was the site where the first women, Phoebe Jordan cast a vote on Nov.2,1920. That's impressive and I'm sure that alot of womens rights and the right to vote could be taught in the one-room house. They need about $20,000 to complete the project but they have run out of state and federal funds. Hopefully, I can speak to Lynn Steinhoff of the Historical Commision to list her project on Funding the Arts.

Another project that just started is the William Russell Allen House in Pittsfield,MA. The Executive Director, Carole Owens plans to restore the house to keep archives and artifacts about Pittsfield. They have an impressive board which includes, Donald Feigenbaum, Teddie Lauren and desendants of the Allen family.

Both projects sound interesting and have merit. But one has an impressive board while the other is a one-women show trying to obtain funding. I'm hoping that my website will be able to help both projects get the funding that they need.

Well, Spring has finally come in the Northeast after a Very Long Winter! Since this is a tourist area, everyday I receive a brochure from one of the many theatre company's. Today I received one from Chester Theatre Company in Chester, MA. Byam Stevens is the Artistic Director and I was very impressed with his visions when I met him last fall. Another company,The News in Revue will be performing at this summer. If you ever get a chance, go see them in either Florida or up here. You will laugh til you fall out of your seat.

Tomorrow I'm going to the cultural round-up at theBerkshire Visitor's Bureau, to see what all the culturals have to offer and to see what's new for summer 07. I'll let you know what I think tomorrow!
