Word Street which was founded in 2004 has relied on donations and grants from the local community in Pittsfield,MA. Those donations and grants have dried up and now Word Street is on the brink of closing its doors.
The concept of Word Street was where students could drop in for free to work on their writing skills. A very worthwhile enterprise.
Conceived by Frank Tempone a high school teacher, the center has worked with students on writing ,poetry slams and connects writers with other writers.
The physical location has a library ,high speed computer and a publishing center.
www.FundingTheArts.org would be such a perfect place to raise money to keep the center going. As I have said before, times have changed how people and non-profits can raise money. What worked before, just doesn't work now. I hope that I can get in touch with the folks from Word Street to list on this site.
I'm going to see West Side Story tonight at Barrington Stage theatre company. I'll let you know how I liked it!
