The Grateful Dead goes Classical
Lee Johnson of LA turns music into clasical form

This year marks the 40th aniversary of The Summer of Love, 1967. The band that critics dismissed as a footnot to the Psychedlic Era was The Grateful Dead. Lee Johnson of LA assembled from a dozen songs of The Dead and recorded them with the Russian National Orchestra as a download and as a CD last month. The 45 year old composer who has written film scores and symphonies started this project 10 years ago and certain songs will be instantly recognizable to those fimiliar to the music of "The Dead."

Listen for songs such as Sugar Magnolia, Bird Song ,China Doll.

Johnson says that American composers have to look into Pop Culture in order to reflect the world that we live in now. That is so true!
