FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Press Release Baltimore, MD - July 30, 2007 Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation has awarded four grants to Delaware arts presenters through the Delaware Performing Arts Presenters Initiative. The Foundation, in partnership with the Delaware Division of the Arts, offers this special initiative to help defray costs related to the presentation of touring performing artists in underserved communities. Proposed artists must be from within the mid-Atlantic region but outside of Delaware (DC, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, and WV) or from outside the United States. Proposals had to demonstrate a commitment to presenting the performing arts and the ongoing development of Delaware's cultural landscape. Presenters are encouraged to use this funding opportunity to expand their programming options through artistic choices that represent financial or aesthetic challenges. The 2007-2008 grantees are: Coastal Concerts (Lewes) will present the Meridian Arts Ensemble in two free concerts for Cape Henlopen schools and one free public children's concert in Lewes to augment the ensemble's regular appearance with Coastal Concerts. The Grand Opera House (Wilmington) will host Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Woodstock, New York-based traditional folk artists (fiddle and guitar) best known for their contributions to Ken Burns' PBS Civil War series. The concert is part of a new series being launched in the 300-seat Baby Grand Theater. The Grand Opera House (Wilmington) will also host Old School Freight Train, a Charlottesville, Virginia-based country and bluegrass band, which takes traditional tunes and blends them with other musical influences for a contemporary yet authentic sound. The concert is part of the new series in the 300-seat Baby Grand Theater. The Schwartz Center for the Arts (Dover) will present The Hot Club of San Francisco, an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli's pioneering Hot Club de France. * Please contact the venues directly for information on dates, times, and tickets. Guidelines for the 2008-2009 Delaware Performing Arts Presenters Initiative will be available in early spring 2008. Presenters wishing to apply should visit the Special Presenter Initiatives section of the Foundation website for guidelines.
