The American Craft Council The American Craft Council is a national, nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting understanding and appreciation of contemporary American Craft. The Council promotes awareness about American crafts though publications, awards, and a mentoring program. http://www.craftcouncil.org

Art Deadlines List A monthly newsletter (via email or paper) with 600-900 announcements listing art competitions, scholarships and grants, juried exhibitions, art jobs, internships and other arts related opportunities. http://artdeadlineslist.com

Association of Fundraising Professionals The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the professional association of individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of nonprofit, charitable organizations. Founded in 1960, AFP (formerly the National Society of Fund Raising Executives) advances philanthropy through its more than 26,000 members in 172 chapters throughout the world. http://www.afpnet.org

BoardSource BoardSource offers excellent tools, checklists, and answers about nonprofit leadership and boards of directors / trustees. One can find information on the role an active board can play in fundraising and development. www.boardsource.org

The Center for Excellence in Nonprofits The Center for Excellence in Nonprofits is a learning community of nonprofits offering programs in leadership development, systemic change, and continuous improvement. www.cen.org

The Center on Philanthropy and Indiana University The Center offers courses and certificates in non-profit management and fundraising. Its Fund Raising School has an extensive list of recommended readings. www.philanthropy.iupui.edu

*****The Chronicle of Philanthropy The Chronicle of Philanthropy is a paid subscription newspaper that makes an excellent resource. It lists current developments in the field of philanthropy, foundation annual reports, recent grants made to institutions, job announcements, Request For Proposals and more. www.philanthropy.com

College Art Association The College Art Association is comprised of individuals concerned about the practice, research, and teaching of the visual arts and humanities. http://www.collegeart.org

CompassPoint Nonprofit Services (formerly Support Center for Nonprofit Management) CompassPoint offers workshops (for a fee) on topics within the nonprofit sector. Their site has well-organized links to online resources and books, etc. www.compasspoint.org

Council on Foundations The Council on Foundation is a membership organization of more than 2,000 grant-making foundations and giving programs worldwide. They provide leadership expertise, legal services and networking opportunities-among other services- to their members and members of the general public. In addition to encouraging effective grant-making, the Council seeks to increase public awareness of grant-making. http://www.cof.org

Creative Capital Creative Capital acts as a catalyst for the development of adventurous and imaginative ideas by supporting artists who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the visual and performing arts, film and video, and in emerging fields. The website provides information about applying for grants and other programs. http://www.creative-capital.org

***** The Foundation Center The foremost online resource for philanthropy, The Foundation Center retains important information on 67,000 grant-making entities. The Centers most detailed funder database is available online or as a downloadable CD for a fee, but is free on-site at one of their locations across the US, which also feature additional free informational resources for grant-seekers include contact information, type of foundation, assets, total giving, officers, application information, and the IRS 990 filing. The website also provides information about funding trends, statistics, and top funders. The Foundation Center produces - the Philanthropy News Daily (PND), available through online subscription. This publication reports current developments in the non-profit field, request for proposals (RFPs), deadlines, and more. One can also sign up for grant research and grant writing seminars. www.foundationcenter.org

GrantCraft: Practical Wisdom for Grantmakers GrantCraft is a new web site from the Ford Foundation that offers resources from grant makers for grant makers on the tools and techniques of effective grant making. Among the tools Institutional Fundraising Resource List

available are guides, videos, and case studies that present the practitioners view of philanthropy.

The Grantsmanship Center The Center administers workshops on grants and fundraising nationwide, and offers lists of grant resources and a free publication about the nonprofit sector. www.tgci.com/

***** Guide Star Guide Star maintains a database of over 850,000 nonprofit organizations. The U.S. tax code describes a nonprofit organization in section 501(c)(3), thus the reference to a 501(c)(3) is essentially a nonprofit organization. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is the U.S. tax collecting entity for all government activities, programs, services and personnel. The financial report that the IRS requires nonprofit organizations to submit every year is the 990, which includes a list of a Foundations board of directors, as well as organizations and activities funded. From this list, grantseekers may be able to judge whether the foundation is an appropriate prospect for funding for a project or program, and if so, what is an appropriate amount of funding to request. www.guidestar.org

Innovation Network, Inc. Innovation Network, Inc. (InnoNet) helps public and nonprofit organizations to better plan, execute, and evaluate their structure, operations and services. Most useful is the networks listing of resources for nonprofits: including resources for strategic planning and project evaluation, as well as information on fundraising. www.innonet.org/resources/overview.cfm

INC: Internet Nonprofit Center INC provides information on nonprofits and search tools to find info about individual nonprofit organizations. www.nonprofits.org

Lexis-Nexis A research tool that allows you to search for articles in almost any English language publication dating back to the early 1970s, as well as biographical information including Whos Who, Directory of Directors, and information on lawyers. In addition we can search for address information (which includes phone numbers and dates of birth), as well as deed transfers (cost of home), and company information, not to mention boat and airplane ownership, death records and voter registration records. Lexis-Nexis Academic is a subscription-based service that is available at all Columbia Libraries except the Libraries physically located at the Law School.

National Center for Family Philanthropy Promotes philanthropic values, vision, and excellence across generations of donors and donor families to ensure that they and their advisors have access to the highest quality information and the encouragement needed to: articulate, pursue, and achieve their charitable missions; understand and meet their governance and management needs; and have a significant positive impact on the lives and work of those they support. http://www.ncfp.org/

New York Regional Association of Grantmakers NYRAG offers educational programs to grantmakers along with programs to build and solidify networking and professional collaborations among grantmakers. Many of the resources for philanthropy are member-based. They have an annual directory that is sometimes useful. http://www.nyrag.org

New York State Attorney Generals Office The New York State Attorney Generals Office Charities Bureau is responsible for supervising charitable organizations to ensure that donors and beneficiaries of those charities are protected from unscrupulous practices in the solicitation and management of charitable assets. The Bureau also supervises the activity of foundations and other charities to insure that their funds and other property devoted to charitable purposes are properly used. The website provides information about current laws and statutes, tips and advice for charitable organizations, New York Law Journal Articles, and The Attorney Generals Report on Fund Raisers in New York. http://www.oag.state.ny.us/charities/charities.html

Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of NY Helps nonprofits meet common challenges and problems, to serve as a meeting ground, and to strengthen the nonprofit sector as a whole. NPCC has over 1,300 members in the New York metropolitan area. It publishes a monthly newsletter, New York Nonprofits, offers workshops and roundtables on management issues, provides low-cost vendor services, convenes a monthly Government Relations Committee providing a watchful eye over government and legislative issues affecting the sector, and maintains a website with writings on matters pertaining to operating a nonprofit. http://www.npccny.org

Nonprofit Pathfinder This site contains useful links to academic programs in nonprofit management, academic research centers, online resources, leading foundations and think tanks. http://www.independentsector.org

The Nonprofit Times The Nonprofit Times offers free subscriptions to executives of nonprofit organizations. Some articles are available online. www.nptimes.com

Program on Nonprofit Organizations at Yale University Since 1977, the Program on Nonprofit Organizations, which is based at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale University, has operated as an international center for multidisciplinary studies of philanthropy, voluntarism, and nonprofit organizations. The work of scholars affiliated with the Program has appeared in books and scholarly journals, as well as in the Programs working-paper series. http://ponpo.som.yale.edu/

The Support Center for Nonprofit Management The Support Center for Nonprofit Management (SCNM) provides training, consulting, and coaching for nonprofit organizations. SCNM offers workshops, trainings, and publications. http://www.supportctr.org

Arts International Arts International is dedicated to the development and support of global cultural interchange in the arts and to educating audiences and the public about the richness and diversity of the arts worldwide. Artslink Projects Artslink Projects provides support to US artists, curators, and arts organizations to work with their counterparts in 27 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. Projects should be designed to benefit participants and audiences in both countries. Institute of International Education The Institute of International Education is the worlds most experienced global higher education and professional exchange agency. The website provides information about their publications educational grant programs, including the Fulbright Program. http://www.iie.org

For Museums:

American Association of Museums (AAM) AAM is the largest trade organization for U.S. museums and museum professionals across the country and beyond. AAM offers a wealth of resources for both members and non-member institutions. It is also affiliated with the International Council of Museums (ICOM). AAMs Aviso newsletter has grant deadlines, as well as job announcements and sector developments and current affairs. AAM's Bookstore features, among many museum topics, publications on fundraising and development; the AAMs annual meeting also offers a number of sessions, workshops and networking opportunities on fundraising and development in addition to other areas of museum management. ICOM also participates in the AAM annual meeting. www.aam-us.org

International Council of Museums (ICOM) The International Council of Museums is an organization of over 15,000 museums worldwide. Located in Paris at the UNESCO headquarters, ICOM has numerous committees that work to set international standards for museums, including the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM), and several others. www.icom.org www.cimam.icom.org
